Remember when your cousin asked you to be a bridesmaid in her wedding five years ago? Thrilled at first, you said “yes, yes, of course yes!” But when you found out what you were going to be wearing, it’s ok to admit you wish you could bail out. Or maybe you are one of the lucky ones who has a best friend who chose a simple, classic LBD and allowed you to choose your own shoes to wear. Either way, have I got an event for you!
My friends at Boston.com are holding the first ever Running of the Bridesmaids this Saturday, September 29th. It’s a one-mile charity run and the proceeds will be going to a wonderful organization – the Big Sister Association of Massachusetts. Prizes will be awarded for the Worst Dressed Bridesmaid, the Best Accessorized Bridesmaid and the Best Hair. Prizes include a trip for six to Las Vegas courtesy of JetBlue Getaways (can anyone say ‘bachelorette party?) and a sapphire and diamond pendant and matching earrings courtesy of the Jewelers Exchange Building. Yes, that’s right. I just said the prizes are a vacation and jewelry!!! What’s not to love?
You don’t have to be a bride to enter. In fact, while this is a terrific event to do solo or with a group of friends. But if you are a bride, grab those ‘maids and make a day of it! (Follow it up with pedicures at your favorite salon and there’s no way they can say no!)
