Boston Wedding Photographer – BKB Photography

There are so many things I love about being a wedding blogger.  First, as most people would agree, weddings are just plain fun!  So, being involved in an industry that is based on that is, well, pretty awesome!  I also get to see the latest trends – from bridal gowns to bouquets to hairstyles – on a daily basis.  It lets me stay current and know what you guys want to know about!  But the main reason I love being a wedding blogger is that I get to ease brides’ stress in the wedding planning process (you know what I am talking about!). And the best way I can do that is to tell you about the best vendors in the Boston area so you don’t have to do all the legwork.  How do I know they’re the best vendors?  Because I hear first hand from other brides, past clients, and read about their reputation.  I talk to them myself, see their work, and I only blog about vendors I would hire myself.

So, I recently started thinking about who the most important vendor is to have on your wedding day.  Some might say “caterers”, because you want to make sure your guests have the absolute best food at your wedding.  Others might say “entertainment” because they want a packed dance floor all night.  But if you ask me, the most important vendor to have on your wedding day is the photographer.  I say that because their work will not only reflect you as a couple, but their work will be the first thing you turn to year after year.  And it will be their talent that future generations in your family will be looking in your wedding photos.  So, in essence, having the best photographer will create your wedding memories for a lifetime, and take it from me, you want the best that’s out there.

There are many Boston area wedding photographers who are talented and trustworthy.  But I want to tell you about one photographer whose work I LOVE and if you haven’t booked your wedding photographer yet, you should contact her ASAP before another bride takes your date 🙂

If you haven’t heard about Brittany Blando yet, I am beyond excited to be the one to tell you about her!  Brittany Blando of BKB Photography is a super talented photographer who has been capturing wedding memories for over a decade.  What I love about her work is that she seems to truly capture the moments, as if the photos are speaking to you.  Her style is based on fashion and photojournalistic mentors so can you imagine what your wedding photos will look like?  Yeah, like they right out of a bridal magazine.  And speaking of which, Brittany’s work has been published in Brides Magazine, Boston Magazine, Style Me Pretty, Grace Ormonde Wedding Style and The Knot Magazine. She’s also been recognized as an “Editor’s Pick” by The Knot Magazine since 2007 (how cool is that?).  And former brides can you tell you themselves – check out their reviews of BKB Photo here on

I recently had the pleasure of doing a little Q and A with Brittany.  Check out what she had to say!

Bridalista:  How did you become interested in photography and what is your background?

Brittany:  During highschool and college I interned with several commerical photographers in Boston working on campaigns for Pottery Barn, Abercombie & Fitch and Ford Model Agency.  I was also an assistant to a wedding photography studio on Boston’s North Shore. I was simply hooked after my first wedding at the Four Seasons Boston.  I remember the gorgeous bride as if her wedding was last weekend.  It had it all – fashion, beautiful decor and relationships. After graduating from The Art Institute of Boston at Lesley University with a BFA, I hit the Boston wedding scene at a time where there were not a lot of wedding photographers in the area and I found myself filling a void in the market.  Digital photography was just coming about and I was the first studio in Boston to offer high resolution files to brides, allowing them reproduction rights to their photos. My studio became a sought-after brand in New England market.  Soon after, editors at major publications would consistently contact me to publish my work as featured in their “real weddings”. My studio was also noted winning “Best of The Knot” for The Knot magazine for seven years in a row.  The studio was also featured in Boston Magazine’s “Best Of” edition.  It was then that my studio was flooded with inquires.  I even began photographing local celeb weddings!

Bridalista:  How did you become interested in photographing weddings?

Brittany:  Relationships and romance have always interested me.  Whether it’s a cultural celebration, saying “I do” with the sand between your toes on Cape Cod or a Boston ballroom wedding, I love it all! I’ve always enjoyed the fast pace of a wedding day, working under time constraints capturing all the moments that embody one of the biggest celebrations you will host in your lifetime – and the best part is capturing family history.  It’s a real honor photographing a wedding.  It’s a personal day and through my lens, I am able to document your greatest love story of all time, and be part of your day.

Bridalista:  Are there any photo trends you are seeing for this year?  Are couples asking for particular photos?

Brittany:  Couples are moving away from “funky” or “edgy” angles and leaning more towards traditional portraiture or as I like to call it “editorial photography”. It’s important to recognize that of course photographers always look for unique angles when capturing an event. But it is equally important that intent is captured behind your angle usage and to make sure your clients look flattering at all times.  Clients who hire me know I will produce consistent crazy-good images that could be framed in their living room or appear on the pages of a real wedding spread.  I will always capture the “formal” style looking photos of families and friends lined up.  If you think about it, it’s one of the only times your guests will be in one place.  (This is so true!!!)

Bridalista:  Do you offer engagement sessions?

Brittany:  There are so many benefits to engagement session  First, it gives the couple and photographer a chance to get to know each other and get comfortable with the process prior to the main event. Many couples choose to use one or more of their engagement photos as part of their Save The Date announcement. Some couples even display some of the photos at the wedding reception or rehearsal dinner.  It’s just nice to have some really beautiful, fun and casual images of you as a couple!  Engagement sessions take place in and around the Boston-area and last about one hour. Although not required, professionally styled hair and make-up is recommended, as is one wardrobe change.

Bridalista:  What is your style?

Brittany:  The studio’s work has been described as “editorial style” photography, focusing on portraits and details surrounding the event. Every wedding is captured as if it were going to be featured in a wedding magazine or wedding blog.

Bridalista:  How far in advance do you suggest couples book you for a wedding?

Brittany:  Typically, couples book the studio 6-12 months in advance, however, I do book last minute weddings. 90% of my clients book my studio over the phone. It saves them time and they have researched my reviews.  They also know they can connect with me at anytime or meet to discuss their wedding planning, scheduling, photography requests or to chat about the latest ” Say Yes to the Dress” episode!  My website is filled with useful information and swoon-worthy real wedding galleries of local couples along with recent blog posts.  Clients can see my latest work and feel confident they have selected a true professional.

Bridalista:  What sets you apart?

Brittany:  I’ve built trusting relationships with local couples ensuring them I care about their wedding (I eat, live and breath weddings) and I am here for them throughout the planning process, I will always go-above and beyond on a wedding day, whether a bride needs a dress fluff, a pep talk or powerbar– let’s face it, I’ve been there too, I know the anticipation, the excitement, number crunching, and all the hard work that went into creating the perfect day and I want it to be perfect for you.

Bridalista:  What is your travel distance for weddings?

Brittany:  I have traveled throughout New England capturing weddings.  I have also photographed through New York, Missouri, Ohio, The Bahamas and Caribbean islands – all in the name of weddings!! I am available to capture local weddings and destination weddings.

Bridalista:  What happens after the wedding?

Brittany:  My clients expect to see all their wedding photos online hosted at a private password protected website within 4-6 weeks from their wedding date (if not sooner).  Within that time frame, a high resolution DVD will be shipped direct to the client allowing them to make professional high quality prints from their disc or to use for their personal use for social media sharing. I built my reputation on turning-around photos quickly– I know your just as excited as I am to see your professional photos.

Bridalista:  Do you offer album packages?

Brittany:  Albums may be purchased a’la’cart and range between $600-2,500+ depending on the style. The beauty about your investment at BKB Photography is that my clients receive all-day coverage catered to their event and there is no obligation to purchasing albums or additional products at the time of booking or after. By no product obligation, this allows my clients to not feel pressure buying into an album package that in the end may not be the best fit for their style or budget. However, albums are a great way to hold all your favorite photos in one place for years to come, my album line is crafted from the best materials in the industry and turn around our albums quickly for you to gush over.

Bridalista:  Is there anything else you would like to let the readers know?

Brittany:  Yes!  I just released a brand spanking new website and running a promotion until Valentines Day, now this is something to love! Check out the promotion here valued at $550

So, there ya have it!  I hope you had a chance to get to know Brittany a little better.  You have to check out her new site – I love the Real Weddings gallery.
