Boston Wedding Vendor Spotlight – VOWS Bridal Outlet

If you are a bride in the Greater Boston area, there is no doubt you have heard of my all-time favorite local shop, VOWS Bridal Outlet.  Honestly, the minute I hear someone mention those three little words, I just get so excited!  The place just rocks.  As soon as you get engaged, someone is bound to say to you, “have you been to VOWS?”   And it’s no wonder why.  You can find a fab designer wedding gown at VOWS for literally a fraction of its original retail price.  Yes, you read that right!   And let’s face it, all brides deserve to look and feel their very best on their wedding day.  And if you can do that while saving money, well, even better!

Located in my old stomping ground of Watertown, VOWS carries some of the most desired wedding gown designers out there.  You know who I am talking about – Vera Wang, Monique Lhuillier, Lazaro, Amsale, Anne Barge, Jim Hjelm, Kenneth Pool, Reem Acra and more.  Honestly, with designers like these, don’t be surprised if find more than one dress you love!

Brides from not only the Boston area but all over the country flock to VOWS to find that bridal bargain.  The pros at VOWS search high and low for the best of the best gowns out there to bring them to you at a discount.  How do they do it?  They are able to track down wedding gown samples and overstock.  They are in perfect condition and just waiting for you to try them on and take them for a spin.

Take note – When you visit VOWS and find the perfect gown for you, don’t wait on it! You’ll only find one of each gown there so if you don’t take advantage of it, another bride will.  And you don’t want another bride wearing YOUR gown, do you?

(Gown – Liv Harris)

You may also have heard of VOWS from one of my all-time favorite wedding shows, I Found the Gown which airs on TLC.  I admit it, I am a wedding show addict.  I Found the Gown showcases brides who have come to VOWS and documents their shopping experience.  And if you have ever thought “Hey, I could be on that show!”, well, now is your chance!  TLC is currently casting for the show.  You can find all the info here.

If you have watched the show (religiously as I have), you have probably come to know Leslie DeAngelo, Founder and Owner of VOWS.  Leslie and her husband Rick are a team, both in marriage (shouldn’t it be like that?) and at work.  In fact, they are such a great team that they are constantly working together to bring those awesome gowns to you.  Thank god!  That’s what makes VOWS simply the best bridal shop around.

(Leslie and Rick DeAngelo, Owners)

Lucky for me, I had the chance to talk to Leslie one on one about VOWS and the trends she has been seeing in the bridal industry.  Here’s what she had to say:

Bridalista:  I bet that every Boston area bride has heard of VOWS, but they may not know about your personal background.  What made you decide to open this bridal store?   How did you become interested in wedding gowns?

Leslie:  My husband Rick and I began our wedding business over 20 years ago, just after our own wedding. I had wanted to wear a designer wedding gown but unfortunately I didn’t have a designer budget. Needless to say, I didn’t wear my dream gown. Rick was very entrepreneurial and we both dreamed of owning a business together so six months later we opened a designer bridal outlet store and called it VOWS Bridal Outlet.

Bridalista:  I recently read about Liv Harris Designs.  What can you tell me about this line of gowns?

Leslie: Because VOWS specializes in high-end samples and overstocks, much of our inventory is made of sample size 8’s and 10’s. The average American woman is now a size 14. We wanted to make sure that we had something for every size and shape so we decided to launch our own line and stock it in multiple sizes. Liv Harris gowns are made of fine laces and silks and because we order them in large quantities, we are able to offer them to our brides at very affordable prices.

Bridalista:  What are the most sought-after gown designs brides are looking for?

Leslie:  Most brides come into VOWS to find an amazing designer dress for an equally amazing price. Many brides are thrilled to try on whimsical Vera Wang, romantic Monique Lhuillier, and the high fashion of Oscar de la renta, especially because they are now in their price range.

Bridalista:  If a bride is interested in a gown that you don’t happen to have in stock, what are their options?

Leslie:  If a bride absolutely has to have a particular gown that isn’t in stock, she is able to fill out a “gown notifier form” on and we will notify her as soon as the gown comes back into stock.

Bridalista:  What design trends seem to be popular this year?

Leslie:  Sleeves are coming back strong. Whether it’s a ¾ length lace sleeve or a delicate capelet, to accessorize your look. A little less skin is the trend for fall.

Bridalista:  What sorts of accessories do you sell at VOWS?

Leslie:  We offer a beautiful assortment of beaded belts, veils and headpieces.

Bridalista:  What advice do you have for brides who don’t really know what type of gown they want?

Leslie:  Keep an open mind! Try on lots of silhouettes and styles and listen to the advice of your bridal consultant. This is what they are trained to do.

Bridalista:  What advice do you have for brides who only have one particular gown in mind?

Leslie:  I often see brides who have fallen in love with one particular dress that they have only seen in a bridal magazine but they have never tried the dress on. This is a big mistake. You really need to see what the gown looks like on you! Once you try it on and you know you have to have it then you can do your research to find the best price.
